"Business is doing good but I keep getting calls from stranded motorists.  How could someone confuse AAA with AAAA?"

Anton!!

Shineon,

I agree about the "mean spirited references".  From what I read, Long really became a pain in the ass to work with due to her professionalism and questioning the writers on the direction Diane was going (she famously did not want the Frasier character to exist at all and didn't agree with the introduction

Carol (this is for your comment below)

I have to disagree here.  While the show lacked some of the great long term arcs in the later years and missed a lot of the character nuance and overall heart, I still believe it was downright funnier than just about anything in the earlier years. I put season 8, 9 and 10 up there with some of the great Seinfeld

It really is nice to see this Cheers renaissance.  Cheers was a huge hit during its run and its last few years it really became like "event t.v" every Thursday night (it didn't hit # 1 until season 9).  Growing up in NY, the show ran in syndication on channel 11 every night at 11:00 p.m. for at least 5 years after the

Jay, you absolutely nailed while this episode was so successful.

I agree.  I saw the saw this episode when I was about 11 or so when it ran in its early days of syndication on Channel 11 (WPIX) in New York (about 1987 or so).  I know its just a sitcom but I thought it had a really positive effect on me.  "Gay" was always such a terrible thing as a kid growing up but this episode

Hedaya was so friggin great in that role.  The funny thing was he actually made you sort of like him despite what a jerk he was.  Occasionally it really came through that he really loved Carla.

Nice catch here.  Danson is pretty great.  One of all my all time favorite Danson great moments is SPOILER his final scene with Diane (although she returns in the last episode)  when she leaves him to write her book.  Danson is so great in the scene (Long is too) because while Diane says she will be back in 6 months,

I'm expecting a lot of criticism next week with "Boys in the Bar" being dated but I don't understand how this show, or any show for that matter gets criticized for it.  Was Cheers supposed to predict the future? It's a silly criticism.

[This comment is actually for the comment by "Play" below me.  Why doesn't AV fix this feature?]

Speaking of older ladies.  There was an episode in the 8th season where Sam sleeps with (multiple times I believe) with Rebeca's former college professor.    Except this actress and character was clearly in her 60's and borderline elderly looking (I can't recall the actress).  I remember a certain creepy ick factor

YELNICK MCGWAWA was in this episode and it wasn't mentioned in the recap?

It was his OWN teammates who named it the slider of death!

One of my favorite endings ever (and an overall great episode).  The way Sam screams in anger and goes charging out the door to kill someone.

I can't believe you guys forgot the best scene in "The Spy Who Came in For a Cold one", it puts me in stitches every time.  When Finch is reciting "his" poem and Coach finishes it for him:
Coach:[finishing Finch's poem]  "…my heart is gladder than all these things
because my love has come to me."
Coach: "The nuns taught

Phil was actually played by Rhea Perlman's father.

"What are you up to there Norm?"

I just thought it should be mentioned that this episode was directed by John Patterson shortly before his death.  He did a great job with this episode and directed all of the season finales up until that point.  When the episode aired his death was noted after the closing credits.  He was close with Chase and was
