*Spoilers* Yeah, I found myself comparing Mal and Jayne's conversation at the end of this episode to the airlock scene at the end of Ariel.  I was also wondering, if the episodes had been reversed, would Mal have been less willing to offer advice to Jayne?  Somehow, I think not.

I agree- what this episode lacks in subtlety, it makes up for in emotional resonance. The humor of the episode turns on its head after the kid sacrifices himself for Jayne, and Jayne turns to Mal for help.  For some reason I find that the saddest scene of all of Firefly.

The worst thing isn't even the dance.  It's the split second after the dance where she goes into that cutesy pose.  Grrrrrrr.

I sort of hope this movie is to indie romance movies as Cabin in the Woods is to horror movies, and that the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope is treated with a lot of self-awareness and tongue-in-cheekness.

Agreed- having no cuts was a nice touch, almost like a dance in a Fred Astaire movie.  And for some reason I liked the end credits coming up during the dance.
