I agree- I also feel like he was never taken seriously as a character.  I base this on one fact.  In Gunn's first or second appearance, his sister turns into a vampire and he's forced to dust her.  This fact is NEVER mentioned again.
Considering how death in the Buffyverse is usually dealt with seriously, I was

Where's Firefly?

As a non-magical teenager, I sympathized with Xander.  In early seasons, Buffy stands out among Willow, Xander, Giles and Cordelia as being the special one.  However, when Willow becomes a witch and the Scoobies grow to incorporate Faith (briefly), Anya, Spike, Tara and others, he becomes the odd one out.

And as long as he's president of the Howdy Doody Circus Army.

The difference is that Xander was a viable character for 3 seasons (though I'd argue for at least 5 or 6).  Dawn had a purpose in season 5, but didn't really work as a character beyond that purpose or after that season.

Xander plays a less important role in later seasons, but I think his relationship with Anya keeps him relevant at least through season 6.  And he has, in my opinion, one of the most poignant scenes in the entire series, when in the season 7 episode "Potential" he and Dawn bond over how it kind of sucks to have

I started watching 30 Rock this season and only recently started watching re-runs.  On watching the re-runs, my first thought was, "Why is that goob talking to Liz?"  There's no indication in later seasons that he's any different from the dorky writers.

I get the impression that there are few "legal" marriages in the outer planets, and that they were united in a solely religious/cultural ceremony.  That would make them married according to the inhabitants of that planet, but not in the eyes of the Alliance or to anyone else.  I think Mal brings it up that they were

I kind of like Simon and River's absence from the episode- it makes sense that they try to stay out of the way when there are strangers on board.

I love Kaylee's gasp of excitement.  It illustrates her character perfectly.

Agreed- The Zeppo is probably Xander's finest episode.

Yes!  And I though Hubbell was super rich!  It seems like his mom should be able to pay for upkeep of the studio if her son has that much money, considering they live together.
