He's also written a couple of good essays! Like, I cannot say how many times "Commonwealth Literature Does Not Exist" has been useful in discussions about artistic ghettos.

Yeah, if they jumped on it like two or three years ago, but this is a high profile of enough move that it directly pisses off the people who would go out of their way to buy silly orange hats: Browncoats at large, many of whom already bought these hats. The only way it would make sense was if they were going to

Am I the only who sees this news and thinks that this is a sign that Fox might be considering doing something with Firefly? I mean, why the fuck would they defend a property they don't give a shit about and plan to do nothing with?

There must be some sort of hidden benefit that having the most despicable reality television show on air that makes both broadcast and cable networks compete for the title. Like, is there some multi-million dollar grant from the Society of Television Sadists that none of us know about?

True. I agree the Doctor always represents some form of rationalism, but it still feels a little weird when you have this outsider come into this alien culture, finds that alien culture is evil and oppressive, and then by the end of that episode has completely dismantled the culture and replaced it with enlightened

I really loved the episode myself, but the paternalistic element did bother me, if only because of the larger implications. If you consider the fact that the Doctor is an inherently British sort of sort superhero who goes to alien lands dispelling superstitions, then the paternalistic nature of the character is more

Good to see Clarkesworld get recognition again. (Good SF that website carries.) Though, looking at the Hugo nominees, does anyone find it terribly weird that only one story from the prozines got nominated this year?

I'm actually a little surprised about Todd's suggestion, but I agree that Coates would break up the KKK rally that is late night in a way that would incredibly intelligent. He's smart, funny, and like Oswalt can spin a funny or poignant moment out of Transformers reference. (Doubt it's going to happen, but that

Does anyone remember this quote? "You know what’s going to be painful? When my mother remarries your father and I’m your new sister and Dad likes me best. And then we send you away to an all-girls boarding school where you find true love. And on visiting day I come up and steal your new girlfriend. The following

Before reading the spoiler space, I thought the ridiculous part of the ending that was going to be cut was the Zombie Infection curing kiss, which I thought was a nice inversion to the end of Romeo and Juliet but was entirely cheesy. I'm a little disappointed to hear they watered down General Grigio's arc though. It's

Another thing I've noticed about RLM is how they're occasionally cut a joke for the sake of their criticism. For example, I think the extended Styrofoam beating gag they included on their outtakes for their Haunted House review was hilarious, but I understand why it was cut from the episode itself.

Macross II never happened. Plus/7/Frontier don't acknowledged it happened, why should you?

G-Saviour. It's not as bad some say it is, but it is still pretty bad. If there was a version of "My World of Flops" that focused exclusively on Canadian produced anime adaptations, it would be a failure rather than a fiasco.

^Afghanistam: That's literally the most hipster thing I've ever read.

Have you watched the show? They shoot the aliens with missiles. Lots of missiles.

There was some talk about a live-action Gundam movie, besides the one that no one likes to acknowledge exists. (Needless to say, it fell into development hell.) If it was made in Japan, it would almost certainly be something completely original or a version of the original series. If made in the US, it would be Wing

UC or AU?

I'm not saying that Robotech was bad or wasn't instrumental in bringing anime to the US…but most people remember it for the Macross sections. Macross also has the advantage of having good sequels (7, Plus, Frontier) where as any attempts to revitalize Robotech have generally been considered laughable.

The VF 1 has the same problem as the original Gundam: it looks like it's designed in the 70's/80's. I agree that later designs are way cooler.

Just because SOMEONE has to be that guy, am I the only one who wants a live action version of Macross rather than Robotech?
