The Mist was kind of incredible, though I was half-and-half on it while I was watching it. Tons of stuff doesn't work - some wooden performances, the unconvincing religious fervor, the ending - but all the monsters (especially that BIG one at the end, which was honestly one of the scariest things I've ever seen in a

I just got three of these from Netflix yesterday.
Synecdoche, Happy-Go-Lucky, and Let the Right One In - probably the top three movies on my "I can't believe I didn't see this in the theater" list.

Paranoid Park was fantastic. Milk, not so much - Van Sant doesn't leave much of a directorial stamp on it, and it's dragged down by an over-obvious screenplay and a really grating performance by Diego Luna.

Huh.
Frank Oz must be spinning in his grave.

Back in 2004 or thereabouts, I chatted with these guys, and mentioned TheSpark to Rudder. He kinda waved it off, since I'm sure he got asked about it all the time when the band was first starting out. Anyway, they're super-nice guys.

He's going to be in Joe Swanberg's next move, "Alexander the Last." I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not.

Amelie, you could pitch that concept to a studio exec and they'd just straight-up hand you bags of money.

The best thing to come out of Green Hornet is a scene in "Fist of Fear, Touch of Death" where this mustachioed dude dresses up like Kato and beats up some rapists in Battery Park.

Yeah, I just picked up the Enemy Ace Showcase and it's… ACES!

JVS is right-on about the "cast for the alter-ego" thing, with one major exception: Bale's Batman voice absolutely sucks. It's fucking distracting.

I like musicals, but Across the Universe was *awful* - even the handful of moments that worked couldn't make up for the thudding artlessness and emotionally hollow nature of the rest of the movie. Boo-urns.

Army of Shadows is Melville's best - get on that shit, ya'll.

Bob le Flambeur is amazing. That whole mini-genre of mid-50s French neo-noirs produced a lot of good stuff - Rififi, Elevator to the Gallows, Jacques Becker, etc.

Next up: Paul Blart Goes to Jail.

Yeah, it's fucking awesome. The girlfriend and I were both really enthusiastic about it, even though I can't honestly say I'd recommend it as a "good" movie. It's beyond that.

It's no Lego Star Wars, but still pretty great. Lego Clayface is just adorable.

"Up to Our Nex" was written for the movie, and is also included on Goodnight Oslo. "America" is an oldie (from Groovy Decay).

Lego Batman?
I seriously fail to see the problem with Lego Batman.

Good to see the "A" grade here - this is a top-notch Hitchcock album, and one of his most accessible.

I was going to post almost exactly the same thing, Miller. Good work.
