I thought for sure that Woody Allen had already contracted with every current or would-be filmmaker to reserve this title for his final film.

I've seen probably 75% of the full Flying Circus episodes, it's just that I've seen too many greatest hits type things and the remainder are odds and ends and Cleese-less episodes. I'm sure there's a gem or two left in there, but it's a lot of high pitched screeching, men in dresses, Terry Gilliam animations, and…

Yeah, this is where I was at. It definitely tickles the pretend nostalgia bone to see Richard Pryor and Chevy Chase doing their 'yell racist terms at one another' sketch in the context that it originally aired, but there are a lot of bad sketches. It's fascinating to watch great talents try to rescue mediocre…

I get the sense now that it isn't that Maron resents straight-laced people - although perhaps he does - but he is upset when straight-laced people come on the podcast because he doesn't get to dig deep into their psyche. As a result, the interview is kind of boring - this sort of needling spices it up a bit. That…

ghoti: Conan was never a stand-up - if his show had bombed, he'd still be writing for TV. I guess he would've had a harder time pitching pilots as unsuccessful talk show host Conan O'Brien, but I doubt his career would've been a failure or that he would've struggled to get work.

CK has turned out 39 episodes of a TV show that he has written and directed - that's 14 hours of television, or the time equivalent of 7 movies. The film and television world is a lot different from when Woody Allen and Mel Brooks made their bones - yes, Louis CK is not likely to make the jump from successful…

I liked when he popped up in Brief Interviews With Hideous Men as the guy who was against dudes who talk about how great they are at oral sex. Truly a random role.

I used that word once in front of my cousin 20 years ago and he still makes fun of me for it.

Sure seemed like the Socs had it made - that was the lesson I took away from The Outsiders as a cynical 13 year old. That and the greasers should get some real goddamn names.

Yeah, I mean, Baraka is not a perfect film by any means, but I don't see why it needs to be called a high-end stoner classic like it's a more sophisticated Half Baked. It overreaches and is clumsy at times, but it's a film told almost entirely in images and music, which is really fucking hard unless you're F.W.…

Was that in NYC? I would kinda assume that. My suburban crimeless hometown would always have backup for speeding tickets and it's like, yeah, good thing you've got that other guy there, otherwise who knows what would happen. So I also leaned towards the bureaucratic critique.
