And seriously how amazing is Ursula Parker - actress on Louie and can play the violin. It's a shame we don't have 18th century courts for her to ply her talents in her adult years.

This episode seemed to be about the obligation we have to one another as people - Louie's daughter has to listen to him, but someday she won't. The store employees don't have to listen to him - at all points, they're more obligated to their co-workers than to a bitchy customer. But then Louie's uncle tells him that…

I didn't have high hopes for Grantland, but at the very least all of their oral histories have been amazing.

Seriously - the comments of Podmass seem to have either people complaining that a particular popular-ish podcast isn't covered on a weekly basis, or someone involved with a podcast shilling for their thing to be covered.

Well, yeah. As a Yankees fan, I've seen my share of terrible free agent signings, and in other sports, I've certainly said 'Okay, just have to wait until year X before this guy is gone'. Regardless, baseball is an individual sport masquerading as a team sport - while I also like to see team camaraderie, it's…

I've always found this argument to be a little ridiculous, and always appeal to Seinfeld's bit about team sports - at bottom, you're rooting for laundry. There is no 'tradition'. How many of the players on the 2004 Red Sox were drafted and/or developed exclusively by them? I count 1 player who played in the World…

Stadium/arena ticket prices have to do with market demand and not player salaries. The same relationship exists in movies. This upsets me, because I feel like I shouldn't have to pay the same amount of cash to see a 90 minute medium to low budget comedy versus a 150 minute blockbuster.

Craft services on that film included Kobe beef, beluga caviar, and they had a fantastic spread of dodo eggs.

Low-budget trappings sometimes make things more fun for me because they suggest, even if incorrectly, 'I could do this!'. So yeah, the line readings in Clerks are terrible and Primer can't hide the fact that it was shot in someone's parents' garage. But there's a connection there that doesn't exist with more…

That's ridiculous - very few people make the calculus 'I could either work for 2+ hours, or go see this movie', and most of the people who would make that calculus are salaried, so their time's worth is more difficult to pin down.

But this is a little different - sports teams have budgets (3 of the 4 major leagues have a salary cap), and if they spend money on one player, they can't spend it on others. Film studios also have budgets, but unless you are a real insider, it's hard to know what might've gotten passed on in favor of something else.…
