Sorry dude (or dudette, depending on whether you are actually a dude), I feel your pain. I basically checked out for season seven, catching up in various ways by reading reviews here, watching clips, etc. Just appalling stuff. But I love Capaldi. Like you I'm a long-time fan (I have a 22-foot scarf in my closet I

Yeah, I agree.

No, I don't. The Rose romance with 10 was abysmal, adolescent fantasy stuff. Very Twilight. I think I literally laughed out loud at the end of "Doomsday." After Eccleston, she became a Mary Sue, plain and simple. And as I said, I think the set up to River Song was great, but the payoff and execution eventually fell

"Innocuous" isn't the word I would use to describe how either RTD or Moffat have handled it. It dominated 10's dynamic with two companions, and 11's with early Amy, and it was definitely present with Clara. I think there's a huge difference between acknowledging sexuality in a clever or compelling way and a juvenile

Exactly.

I guess I take the opposite view. NuWho has been stuck for far too long in "the Doctor is my boyfriend" mode, and every female companion has been a fangirl proxy or a fanboy fantasy (or both). I like the alien-ness of Capaldi's Doctor, and I read his "insults" as as a
clueless, alien distance from human values and

I'm sure you won't agree, and I'm not trying to explain away your observation (because it's certainly valid), but I have understood 12's insults to her appearance as rooted in his own cluelessness, sharpened by his caustic nature.

I save all that rage and hatred for my imbecile of a Dean.

And time traveling involves a seat in coach…

If I had a TARDIS, I would probably spend a lot of time meditating on top of it while orbiting various planets. Fucking loved that opening shot.

"Listen" is really beautifully done. I watched the leaked version, too, and I can't wait to see the finished product. I'm trying to hold out with Time Heist and managed to turn it off after a few minutes, but I probably won't make it two weeks.

Donna was the shit.

That's a cool idea. I guess we'll find out if you're right, and you can come back here and claim your prize.

I too, have found her more bearable, even when interacting with the Doctor. Now that the romantic subtext is gone, she's finally interesting to me as a viewer.

They had a thing on their wrist that popped them back to size when they were ready. They didn't need the machine to reverse the process, apparently.

True, though it would be in keeping with the general spirit of the Doctor, who, at least in the old series, was pretty anti-military. Even when working with UNIT, #3 never concealed his disdain. I think that's part of where all the angst comes from. The new series Doctor is a veteran of a war, which is a huge break

That shit was gold. Gold!

That was a little weird. At first I thought they were flying saucers, which I preferred to eyes.

My favorite of the old series is 4 (also my first Doctor) followed by 2, but Capaldi now easily ties 9 as my fav of the new series. Mature, slightly scary, and not fucking around. I like it a lot.

Sweet Zombie Jesus.. that picture…
