I'm making my way through the comics right now. Still pretty early (I'm in the middle of the Brood Saga, so 1983-ish?), and maybe my perception is colored by the movies, but Cyclops = Douche is not at all incongruent with what I've read so far. Dude is mopey, whiney, and resentful.

It's part of the closing argument, and he actually says "If it (the story) doesn't fit, you must acquit." He didn't mention the gloves, but everybody knew what he was talking about. Really clever word play.
