I've been away from AV Club comments for a fair few months but thought I'd come back 'cause I just watched the pilot of this show.

Yeah, definitely felt more Matchstick Men than Paper Moon. Two of the films that make me most happy though, and perfect references for Sunny!

I loved Red Oaks' body-swap episode, but Sunny managed to make it a race-related musical too (with added Scott Bakula). Outstanding.

Err, this has to be an all-time best level episode. In no other show would you expect that from the first episode of the twelth season.

Happy to see that the director of my favourite horror film this year shares my enthusiasm for one of my all-time favourite horrors (heck, one of my favourite films in fact). And yes, he does point out the few hiccups but they're also part of our love for that film. The good overwhelming outweighs the bad.

My least favourite of the season (and maybe even the entire series so far). Reminded me of some of the old ones, which I also didn't like at all. Grim characterisation, OTT plotting. Grubby, seedy, and cynical to a fault. Not a fan.

I actually think this was the most Twilight Zone-esque of all of the series so far, and might even be my favourite of this new season. Wyatt Russell is perfect casting, and very entertaining and personable, and the concept is so straightforward but not excessively silly (as with Episode 3, and several of the first

I'm a big fan of Jody Hill (and David Gordon Green, it must be said), and this might even become a better show than Eastbound & Down. It already reels the crassness in a bit more and feels a little more mature, but isn't afraid to be absurd. Great finale, and I look forward to the second part of this series!

TOP 20!

I'd assume it's mostly for reference.

One day his character will be watching The Man Who Wasn't There on TV and it will trigger some repressed memories. :(

Douche ex machina

DEATH's 'Freakin' Out'! Acknowledgement of Jill Marie Jones's ridiculously good looks! This episode might be the best so far. This series isn't hilarious, but it certainly knows not to take itself too seriously. Hope this gets a second season…

Definitely. I squealed.

Just wanna say, this show started off a little wobbly (mainly just the acting rather than the script/tone/incredible soundtrack), but I finished it last night and wholeheartedly love it. Give this man another season! This is almost like Louie for a slightly younger demographic (though don't get me wrong, I still adore

Great to see some decent Native Acting Talent roped in this season - the girl from Stations of the Cross (yet again playing a character who is radically influenced by religion), Nina Hoss (brilliant in Phoenix earlier this year) and of course Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others). The use of Pakistani/Indian actors in

That bae shit is wack. Speak English, kids.

Loved this episode. Different tone for each stretch of drama, and I really like the new Phil-Carol relationship. They're really playing off each other really well now, and finally feel like a proper duo.

This criticism of the show got old quickly too. You're either in or you're out.
