I don't hate them, I just would never seek them out. I understand why they're a big deal, the sound just does nothing for me.

I always feel a little guilty laughing at uses of the word, but damn, something about the use of the word is just incredibly funny to me in the right context (and when said by the "right" people). Maybe it's because it's transgressive, I guess. I still think one of the funniest things I've ever seen on TV is Dave…
Damn I love you AVClub.
Parents of autistic kids get kinda desperate. "Einstein was autistic! Bill Gates! Thomas Jefferson!" I hear it all the time. (I have a kid with autism, I understand the emotions involved.) It's overcompensation.
This is honestly the only way the writers could think of something for Barrow to do? It's so incredibly dull.
Anyone from the Howard Stern Show. I know it's not for everyone, but I've been listening since college (1996-ish). Stern has gotten me through some rough commutes and terrible jobs. The staff's commitment to making entertainment out of the everyday stupidities of life (he was doing a show about "nothing" long before…
French in Action! Watched that so many Saturday afternoons on PBS…..Still remember Mirielle and Robert and the bratty younger sister.
……John D. Rockefeller was Jesus?
You should write song parodies for the Stern Show.
Never would have guessed that Haverchuck would grow up to be so damn sexy.
Nothing like a little casual racism to start the day!
"This wood is fake."
It doesn't help that colleges have to justify their $50,000/year price tags by blowing smoke up these kids' (and their parents') asses about how valuable a degree in X major will be.
He was fabulous on Howard Stern a couple of months ago. Really opened up a lot about his private life and alcoholism.
Yes, every OB-GYN I've ever seen is clearly totally turned on by the parade of vaginas through his waiting room.
As a woman exactly the age of the character…..I think that moment was closer to home than I would have liked, and that's probably true for a lot of women my age. There's a sort of dissatisfaction that comes of growing up middle-class, a good student (Lily went to Wesleyan), implicitly expecting that you will find your…
I've done my share of tour guiding. There is a certain kind of person — most often middle-aged men — who cannot stand the thought that some snot-nosed tour guide knows more than they do about anything. People have argued with me over the stupidest stuff. My favorite is the Man Who Knows Everything About the…
This opinion is so foreign to me. LSP is one of my favorite characters. How on earth is she denigrating to women?
I really like his autobiographical stuff too, like "Palm Sunday" and "Timequake". Especially the latter, which is sort of like a twin eulogy for Kilgore Trout and Vonnegut himself.
I dunno - I never even heard of this movie till college (late '90s), but I was utterly charmed by it when I finally saw it, for all the reasons others have covered. I can't wait for my kids to be old enough to enjoy it too. We're gonna try it out on the 6-year-old this year.
