Molly Shannon.
Molly Shannon.
The emptiness of Mako's apartment (aside from the Fire Ferrets poster) worked for me as a reminder that he and his brother were until very recently on the brink of total poverty/homelessness, and have very few personal possessions. There were also boxes visible in one scene, so they probably just moved/haven't…
Old!Zuko and Katara getting together would be hilarious and amazing.
Crappy adaptations of Dracula seem to be a career kiss of death, then.
Jesus Christ.
So the "Dario Argento directs his daughter's nude scene" tally is at what now, 4?
Phenomena?
Kyle Maclachlan's Agent Cooper has to be one of the best characters in television history.
Oh, absolutely. Scenes like the gremlin with Ned Flanders' severed head, or Principal Skinner killing and eating his students, were all the more disturbing because horrible things like that Weren't Supposed to Happen to those characters, even though they'd obviously be okay in next week's episode.
The "Farmworld" that was created when Finn wished that the Lich never existed is probably a better example from Adventure Time. I love Fionna and Cake, but I think the crew likes teasing the fanbase (like at the end of "Mystery Dungeon") too much to make them part of a real universe that exists outside Ice King's…
The classic Treehouse of Horror episodes terrified me when I was a kid, and it's kinda sad how the specials lost their edge and became so watered down over the years. Bring back the nightmare fuel!
Very glad to see Fantagraphics' Young Romance recommended, since Kirby's romance comics are criminally overlooked. Silver Age romance comics are a treasure trove of great art by Kirby, Romita Sr., Colan, Buscema, and even Steranko (!) and it's sad when they're dismissed just because of their genre.
MST3K: "The Brain That Wouldn't Die." Mike's first episode. Controversial only among nerds, but still.
Jean Grey's death in Morrison's run was such an awful waste (as was everything connected to "Xorneto") I'm seriously surprised it's stuck so long. Phoenix: Endsong was a much better goodbye to Jean, despite Greg Land's dead-eyed art. And I'd much rather read about Phoenix!Jean's return than anything with Hope Summers.
SURRENDER, MUTANT
Good god, I miss Runaways.
SWAN!
The joy of reading the second Saga trade was followed by the crushing despair that we won't get a new issue til August.
Maurice is brilliant.
Mike apparently suffers from long, chronic migraines (he even wrote a piece for the NYT about it, years ago) so I give him some leeway when he seems grumpy or extra crotchety.
