Why would it be pointless? It was the vehicle for introducing Ashi to the show, her arc relating to the cult could well be ended with killing her abusive mother and I don't think there would be any loose ends?

I don't think she's dead, mostly because I'm suspicious of off-screen deaths of significant characters.
