Richard Bachman/Stephen King's The Long Walk provides a great example of a dystopian future whose background is not really fleshed out, but works well. I don't need to know how the Walk got established as an institution or how the Major consolidated his power in order to enjoy that story at all.

Fuck with Cy and you're going to need a good supply of body bags.

Not sure about that, but I do know that Powers Boothe's Cy would not abide these hoopleheads. Those that doubt me suck cock by choice.

Can We Talk About Deadwood Instead?
Long live Cy Tolliver!

I really liked Lions of Al-Rassan as well. I didn't enjoy the Fionavar Tapestry quite as much, though I was even younger when I read those, so they might have been somewhat lost on me. I remember listening to Boxer the first time and totally not getting the hype. I tried a couple more times and then put it aside with an Eh. Fuck, make that Baby, We'll Be Fine.

"I have weird memories of you
Pissing in a sink, I think
I have weird memories of you
Parking your car, you said, I'm overwhelmed
You were thinking out loud, you said, I'm overwhelmed"

For me, High Violet and Midlake's Courage of Others are a clear #1 and #2. Not sure about the order.
