Arex, if Philips ultimately rejects Elizabeth because she puts the Motherland before him, that only shows he really doesn't get her. Gregory not only accepted that fact that Elizabeth put the mission ahead of her feelings for him, her devotion to the cause was one of the reasons he loved her.

I think seeing how deeply Elizabeth cared about Gregory in the previous episode affected Philip's perspective on his relationship with Elizabeth. Before Gregory's suicide, Philip could tell himself that Elizabeth's feelings for Gregory were in the past and weren't that deep.

As far as we know, Claudia is more like Patterson than Zhukov. Claudia and Patterson are mid-level bureaucrats who implement the orders of others. Zhukov was a higher-level general who gave the orders.

Elizabeth not killing Patterson reminded me of Elizabeth not killing Timoshev in the pilot. She is a spy who kills people for her job, but when it comes to killing people simply out of revenge, she doesn't seem to be able to cross that line. She will of course beat them senseless before not killing them.
