I love Carnivale, I had seen it before the Holy Trinity, but have yet to watch Rome properly. My dad and I chose between it and Deadwood based on their respective pilots, and, well. .

Oh yeah, I thought it was still very good, but it definitely feels quite different from the rest of the series. I'll never understand those who think the first season is the best.

I really can't imagine a surface level of appeal for the show at all, but I know it apparently exists and existed, so fair enough. It's so largely bleak and depressive, and gets delightfully obtuse fairly quickly, even with "fun" violence and the great humor, it's hard for me to grasp.

Oh yeah, there are far more people in my age range and I only casually know that have heard of Breaking Bad than Sopranos, The Wire, etc. A fair amount have heard of Mad Men, but only because it's on right now, and mainly because of ads during Breaking Bad or from the Emmys.

I'm 18 now, closer to 19. I started Mad Men at 17 and Sopranos at 16. I see no reason why at least a decent proportion of teenagers would be able to properly appreciate the shows.
