On Chevy Chase being "the best he can be," I'm pretty sure that ship sailed decades ago.
Caddyshack is good, but not because of anything Chevy Chase does. It's worth watching just for any parts where Bill Murray or Ted Knight are on screen.
Easily Bamboozled Man!
Supposedly Mike Nelson from MST3K / Rifftrax is a conservative, but he never brings it up and it doesn't really show in his comedy. There is a nasty tendency towards homophobic and transphobic jokes in some of his riffs, but that comes across as more of a generational thing than having any political edge to it.
That's too much, man.
The AV Club
I fail to see the problem with that.
I just read the plot summary on Wikipedia, and hooo boy it sounds awful. Which is too bad, because it seems like a waste of a great cast.
Most of the movie isn't that great, but the final line in this scene automatically makes it one of the best things ever made:
Booker T Jones has a great album from 2011 called The Road From Memphis. I'd also check out Oddisee, Ntjam Rosie, Anderson .Paak, Submotion Orchestra, and John Legend's cover album he recorded with the Roots, Wake Up.
I thought Doob was decently fleshed out, and Kath Two was interesting, but yeah. I can overlook it because I was more interested in what the story had to say about societies than about individuals.
*Christian Bale Batman voice* I do not avoid women, Alfred, but I do deny them my essence.
Tim & Eric are too much for me, but I love the Eric Andre Show. Take from that what you will.
I watched the first episode on Friday. I enjoyed it and I'm going to keep watching, but I came away from it thinking "a really good director and editor could have condensed that into the first 10 or 15 minutes of a movie." I'm hoping the rest of the season isn't all like that.
Charles Bradley and Michael Kiwanuka are phenomenal.
I love Blazing Saddles to death, but I'll admit Young Frankenstein feels kind of slow and clunky, and I just can't get into The Producers.
I just finished Seveneves too! I loved everything about the first two thirds, and enjoyed the last section quite a bit, although Stephenson continues to be a much better world-builder and theme-explorer than he is a story-concluder. I loved all the loopy semi-plausible orbital mechanics technology and the far-future…
Jerry Seinfeld seems like a total dick, but I'll give him credit: he's really funny just hanging out and talking with other comedians, and he and his camera crew gets some *amazing* close-up shots of coffee being made. If I weren't already a coffee addict, just watching a few episodes of that show would turn me into…
Looks like it's back to jail for me! *grunt grunt grunt*
