Not entirely true. Even low-level TV writers on crummy ABC-Family shows get paid on the order of
$2-4K per week, which is a pretty nice salary if annualized. The rub is
that most of them can only find work in spurts, and definitely not for all 52 weeks of the year. So yeah, they probably earn only slight more money

Curtis was awesome, but they totally squandered his awesomeness in season 5. That scene where he escaped from captivity in the office building in season 4 (I think) was savage, but then they came up with some BS character motivation for him so they could write him out of the show. Missed opportunity, for sure.

Inverts1, I disagree. Ben showed that he's willing to kill out of pure, ulterior motive-less hatred when he vowed to kill Penny. Of course, it's possible her death would serve some other purpose (like getting Desmond back to the Island), but when he made that threat to Widmore, he certainly didn't do it with Desmond
