SPOILERS
You're right about Richard and Holly being insufficiently connected to the rest of the action (though I still enjoy the plotline). I disagree about Jack and Kate though, by the end of the season they're set up as a mirror of Geoffrey and Ellen, not to mention Jack's freakout spurring the latter two's

I was going to make my own, similar, rambling post, but you hit all the notes I was going for. It was enjoyable, but something is missing.

@avclub-fa478854a605faec0d6e60817e80fa9d:disqus It's about the doughnuts man, believe me, we weren't making road trips out to Squamish for the coffee. Although people who grew up with Timmy's coffee will defend it with their dying breath.

We were too busy having a Starbucks on every corner, blame Seattle, I do.

@avclub-be12e7f0f8de169a361afbd150d2ce59:disqus Another sign of unnecessary (but awesome) attention to Canadian detail: Vancouver didn't get Tim Horton's until like the mid 00's, before that the nearest Timmies was in Squamish (where Jason Priestly invented the 'Priestly' in 1996). I'm going to assume that was

He's well respected in Canada, the love for him may be less universal up here because we see everything he does. Passchendaele, for example, was supposed to be the Great Canadian Movie, and was considered a critical disappointment (I never saw it so can't comment personally). Also, he's probably the most prominent

@avclub-573185e7a57bcdcd68d7895cf83ffe66:disqus I agree that the Chosen One thing feels very played out, but in defence of this series: it began before the real glut of those stories happened; and Rand (this particular Chosen One) spends thousands of pages earning his stripes.

I've run into lawyers like that, working one huge file on contingency, trying to get their

If you want to catch up on it, you're in for some very funny episodes, a few solid character arcs, and a fair bit of enjoyable 'hanging out with the cast' style tv viewing. You probably won't find the 'mother' stuff as compelling as people watching in real time did for seasons 1-3ish, but it'll hardly ruin the show

@avclub-6997a8bd0e1042b70b60c5c879a1780e:disqus I did a project on Bulgaria when I was 12. How is your capital, Sofia? How does it feel to be Europe's 14th largest country, with over 100,000 square km of territory? That's all I got, it was kind of a shitty presentation.

That game is terrifying

Yea what is it about 25? That was a bad year. I think it is for a lot of folks. I hope it starts getting better soon for you. Also, hell yea you can read the AV club to distract from all the shit that happens in life. Its helped me get through some rough times over the last 8ish years. Whatever works, eh?

A fair point. What the team did was genuinely impressive. Coming in fifth in the Olympics is a massive achievement. Its just that getting a gold, like the Americans actually did, means you're the best in the world. The commentators shouldn't have to resort to hyperbole to sell Canadian accomplishments, we're supposed
