The Tines are fascinating in my opinion and were the most notable (in critical reviews) aspect of FuD. The new things we discover about the tines, especially [spoilers] the choir, the behavior of the vocal singleton, Scriber's brother, the aging of Amdi and his desire to keep his soul intact, Woodcarver's personality…
A Deepness in the Sky is still the best book set in "Zones of Thought" universe.
Or you could have read the publisher's description which makes plain that the book will focus on the tines. Not to mention that the tines was what most people considered the most memorable part of the first book, and the most praised aspect of this book in the majority of reviews, including this one.
This seems like a tough one to grade since the review reads like a strong endorsement but you've given a relatively low C+.
What is the point of claiming not to be able to say anything but then drop a hint that makes obvious what you can't say? Why not just say it?
But what about his role as quirky owner of a quirky greeting card company which quirkily employs quirky zooey deschanel? His thoughts on the apotheosis of the mpdg would have been invaluable!
haha well, better to be pleasantly surprised I guess. It seems pretty unrealistic though.
