Who are we mad at? The movie-going audience (50% female, let's assume) that see male-dominated films? Movie studios for not assuming that the audience would want to see a female lead in the next Transformers movie instead of Mark Wahlberg (remember, this is top-grossing films, most of it made for stupidass

    The female Sam Worthington?

    Erin Brockovich? Steel Magnolias!

Gawker's pretty similar, but it's definitely in the minority, for sure.

A 1% year-over-year change is statistically insignificant, especially in the fluid "top grossing films", which can vary wildly year-over-year. I've no doubt that women are underrepresented, but a 1% loss is hardly a trend.

And business is booming, so that can't be a reason for change.

Those types of movies (romance) are the types women like to see, so we'll naturally see a lot more of them. Look at how much a shitbird like "Safe Haven" made last year!

That's kind of a thing around here. Everybody carries on about how everybody else is going to be an asshole. Then about 8 hours after the original post a couple of assholes come on and do their thing. I'd say the ratio is about 50:1.

What are the "top grossing" films they included in the study? Can we blame the movie-going public? I mean, women are much more likely to go see a male-centric film than guys are likely to see a female-centric film.

I remember that being Clooney's first significant movie role after hitting it big in ER. That and The Peacemaker. He wasn't a sure thing at the time.

Kids these days. No appreciation for art.

I know everybody will cry racism but I still get Keith David and David Keith mixed up. It happens!

You're reading the wrong blogs, brother.

There are shows where women are well-defined and the men barely exist. Nurse Jackie is one, off the top of my head.

    Marty's reactions to Rust, alone.

Russell Crowe and…I dunno, Lena Dunham or someone.

Clearly, and I hope it sticks around. He came right out of the gate throwing FIRE!

I'm shocked that people found episode 7 to be boring. I was so fascinated watching the process of Marty coming around to Rust's line of thinking, along with seeing these guys as shells of their former selves.

Yep. The reviewer is looking for some sort of non-existent ancient utopian society to be the heroes of this film.

Sometimes, it's just better not to know the writer's intentions.
