I thought Pam Grier held it back.  He hired her out of nostaligia and affection, hoping he could engineer a comeback for her.  She had a great look, but lacked the chops to keep up with the rest of the cast (Even bridget fonda).  Notice how a comeback never materialized for her?

The straight story does not belong on this list.  Every year we're bombarded by boring, but sort of ok movies that get 5* reviews.  The only thing interesting about Straight Story is that it was a Lynch film.  it could have been directed by any decent semi-unknown indie filmmaker.
