Seriously. Also, I don't like that masturbating in a pornographic theater is considered a "public" location. Fuck, man if you bring a kid in to a place like that YOU'RE the one in the wrong. Not some weirdo wanting to jerk off somewhere other than his home.

I don't buy the "not out in the open" thing, because he CLEARLY operated out in the open when Dick was Robin, AND the idea that Ra's could track him down, fight against and WITH him long enough to have a longstanding relationship that eventually moves to a place where he HAS A CHILD with Talia, AND THEN that child

I just read The Cult for the first time a few months ago, and I think it holds up. There are a lot of weird, questionable parts to it, but it's still a creepy book. And it owes a LOT to DKR stylistically.

I still think the earliest stories are fun, if clunky. I enjoy the stuff in the first "Batman Chronicles" trade for what it is.

I think the problem here is that Batman has been moved to a level beyond the majority of his villains since the late 80s. Before he would get knocked out all the time, then get back up and fight again. He wasn't super strong (without the super strength), he was just a really, really, REALLY determined man with a A LOT

Some of the best Batman comics to be published in the 90s.

Agreed. They may cost a little more, but if you want to see some of the candy colored adventures Sprang was working on pick up the first two volumes of The Batman Annuals. Then you get all the references that "Brave and the Bold" were making.

Arkham Asylum is a fine book, but it's not a gateway to anything. I mean, the thing is written and drawn as if it's a nightmare, it's not easy to grasp. Not to mention Morrsion was writing Batman as a super-stoic, ramrod parody of himself in that.

That might be one of my favorite Joker stories in the last 20 years.

I'd say pick up a copy of "Tales of the Demon". Since it's all written by O'Neil if feels like it's one long story. Great intro to Ra' Al Ghul. If you like the character, pick up the recently published trade "Birth of the Demon". It has three stand-alone Ra's stories in it. Two of them are great and one is ok.
