They weren't really jokes as much as they were "Things that are actually happening, without punchlines."

I understand *why* they did it. I just didn't buy the transition in the movie itself. It didn't feel earned enough for me.

I could take or leave that plot twist, but I think it works really well thematically within the movie.

That's what I thought at the time, and I still do. Plus, the action sequences in 3 fucking rule. It's a good movie that suffers from some bloat at the end. Just like Superman Returns it's now "OMG THE WORST THING EVER! [SLOBBER]!", because comic book fans rather drawn to hyperbole.

I am SO sick of this argument: 1) Because most comic fans have no taste. Seriously, ask them what makes certain comic movies good. They have no clue what makes a movie watchable. and 2) Watch Spider-Man 1 again. He's cracking wise all over that thing. They're terrible jokes, sure, but that IS from the comics. Everyone…

That's a better answer. In that it is actually an answer.

I still like Spider-Man 3 until the third -rushed- act. It's very clear Raimi wasn't really interested in Venom. And why should he be? Venom is emblematic of the stupid shit that happened to comics in the late 80s/early 90s.
