I have a German language copy of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, even though I don't speak any German. I've been curious about sitting down with a notebook and a German language dictionary and seeing how much German I could pick up that way, but have never found the time.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (the film, but only because I haven't seen the stage show yet). I love the music and Hedwig's story absolutely fascinates me and makes me think about things like identity and how we (and others) view ourselves.

That Ortved book had some interesting stuff in it, but there were so many factual errors (Smithers' name, for example) that it made me wonder. The Mirkin story is probably true, but the book struck me as consisting of a lot of gossip and hearsay. I'd love to see a cultural history of the Simpsons done right, though.
