I've missed TVD quite a bit. I'm really looking forward to the premiere.

True, but I liked the last two episodes more than the reviewer did, so it's a streak as far as I'm concerned.

I'm so insanely psyched about this. I hope New Girl keeps the great streak going!

@avclub-7d15fea968ceac7b6cae8b3f0893dd09:disqus I don't like Lana Parilla too much, but I do like Ginnifer Goodwin, Robert Carlyle and Emilie De Ravin a lot. Jennifer Morrison isn't bad either. It's not her fault that Emma kind of sucks.

I like her, too.

Exactly. I would have liked it if they'd actually slipped a dementor reference in there. That doesn't stop it from being a rip-off, for want of a better term, but it would at least show that the writers don't think that we're all morons.

@avclub-60b08acc1f3a4db4ff5f01c9fd828776:disqus You're right about the tendency to romanticize RTD's era. People are so busy calling out Moffat that they forget that RTD was sloppier and quite problematic himself.

Wow, did it come across that I preferred RTD over Moffat? Just to make it clear, I do not. I do not, not even a little bit. There are so many things about RTD's era that I passionately hated. His plotting was sloppy, and while there were good character moments, a lot of it went overboard and became mawkish and

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head. I think science fiction is really all about expanding the scope of storytelling, but for Moffat, expanding the scope mainly seems to be all about, "CHECK IT OUT DINOSAURS ON A SPACESHIP!!!" and so on, which are a lot of fun, but it is not okay to sacrifice actual emotional

I was just contrasting this with the glimpse of the future we got in the end of season 3. We aren't really far enough into this storyline to be able to compare fairly, but while that future wasn't a dystopia, per se, the world was falling apart, and it was Walternate who was accelerating that chain of events. He did
