You must be about the same age as me. They haven't aged as well for me either, the first couple came out when I lived in France, but I was in the US when the mania hit and was totally into it. For me I think it was just media overload, I think in a decade or so I might revisit the book fondly.

My bi-pedal empathy is really strained during some of those "Blooper" things at the end of movies.

Nah….I know it's "hip" to insult Jon Stewart now, the pendulem is just in that position, but anyone who compares him to Trump is taking it way to far. Jon S can be an excellent interviewer, who follows up and at least tries to make people answer questions, which would be refreshing in the debates.

I think she heard the nascent dragon because they don't want to kill her character off yet. The writing on this show is becoming kind of sloppy, suspending disbelief is becoming more of a chore. Still, it is so well made and executed that (so far) I'm pretty forgiving regarding things like that.
