In the book the south side had no wall. But the Crows were much smarter about defending it….like hey, let us shoot arrows, and throw crap from cover at the bad guys!!! I liked the battle visually, but the staging of it was just too dumb to do anything but laugh at it. It was all staged to get Jon and Ygrittee together

"No Quarter" is great…but "D'yer Maker…what were they thinking?

Not if the end kept it away from the wall

None of that even remotely supports the idea that would have been so surprised, undermanned, and subject to crappy leadership to excuse their idiotic defensive tactics. Mormont is killed ages ago, Slynt was new to the wall and only in "command" a few minutes. Ser Alliser is not stupid, and they all knew about the

Ya, the ones who live on Mountain-islands!!!

Where are you getting that from? That certainly wasn't revealed during the course of the show, it certainly isn't reflected in the book either. And Mormont had years to prepare for the army that he knew was being assembled. In addition Ser Alliser has known all season about the advancing Army, and has made some sound

I liked the episode, but I thought the execution of the battle was just idiotic…but it did look cool. Also I wish Jon would have killed Ygritte…and the held in his arms and last words stuff was just barfable.

The white walkers are too dumb to go around the fire? Also, if that was the strategy for the fire then this assault would not have been just a preliminary assault, it would have been a do or die assault.

And apparently arrows are as well, or any type of projectile period are "f'n" useless. A small quick force with a heartbroken girl in it can apparently take any castle whatsoever. If only they would have known that in the Middle ages they could have avoided all of those long, interminable sieges that were won through

Obviously his plan was not to take the watch unaware from the rear (gosh that sounds yucky!) as he sent them to raise hell south of the wall, including the destruction of Moles Town (how could thy be unaware after Molestown is raided?)…trying to draw them out and decimate them prior to the assault. A situation

Good points. In the writer's defense it would probably be very hard to squeeze the necessary exposition in there. I have to admit as well that if I had to choose between sex and Lannisters; and the Wall, I would chose the sex and Lannisters any day.

The Wildings have been raiding south of the wall all season…and Jon Snow told them they were going to be attacked in two different directions.

Why weren't the prepared? They have been talking about it forever. And despite having all of the defensive advantages they were chopped up and decimated by a preliminary assault. I (or any five year old) would have applied the lessons of Agincourt and used every single arrow I could. Used every single Ballista I

Good point about the not paying enough attention to the North point. But the writers don't do much to clarify that—exactly why it is more important, and how stupid it is for Southern (and Northern) lords to ignore it. I expected a bit of exposition from Roose Bolton on this point, as he should have received a Raven

Why climb the wall directly under their enemies? Why not a whole ton of climbers all along the wall, after all once they reach the top they will be in a much better position to disrupt the siege. Wouldn't something that dropped straight down on climbers make more sense, instead of that big swinging thing? Why, exactly

Hey cool…but that isn't a pointless interjection (why does your name sound vaguely nasty?)

That is clever! Fred Armisen would be great for that!

Something his Nephew also believed in apparantly

Yes Arya, thanks….

I know, they should replace her with a 30 year old immediately!
