Depp just knows that "authenticity" sells, but he can't be bothered actually achieving it.  He does know that half his fans have never seen the source material and wouldn't know authentic unless it hit them on the head and the other half firmly believe that making something Dark (TM) and Gritty (TM) automatically

I feel both this and Big Fish contained ample helpings of what makes Tim Burton kinda suck these days.

When my father used to take me to Victoria Park he'd always be careful to point out "You see that, that's where those two girls killed that lady with a brick in a sock".

I'd like to see Jason Alexander guest star in Veep as the Ukrainian ambassador.

The problem with that is that it would make Dethklok seem likeable by comparison, which is not really the point.

That was the plan with the West Wing, too

I do hope they subvert it at some stage, e.g. the President does call and it's entirely unwelcome.

Or Indiana Murray and the Bum Dildo of Vengeance.

Or a Marzipan Dildo.

Yeah, I feel like this is the first episode where the show has really fulfilled its potential.

I'm guessing that "Vice Presidential liason" is not the most coveted job in the West Wing.

Got some racism that needs doing?

Even the most steadfastly doggedly loyal servant of the King wouldn't really feel the need to listen to Joffrey.  I mean, "execute everybody who pisses me off" is his default solution to every problem, so why wait for him to tell you?

This is a ridiculously impractical thing to say, but I'm on the internet, so… I think the best way to handle this would be as three separate shows, one covering Dany in Essos, one covering Jon north of the wall, and one covering the main war-for-the-throne plot.  That way we could check up on Jon and Dany without

The idea that Tyrion is anything other than a "hero" relies on a definition of "hero" that is so ridiculously over-the-top pearly white and flawless that it's been pretty much out of date since Tirand Lo Blanc.

He's one of the very few characters in Westeros who seems worthy of respect.

He didn't pay for that girl on the ship to the Iron Islands.

I seem to remember Tywin was actually really unhappy about Ned's death, albeit for entirely pragmatic, non-moral reasons.  I don't know if sending Ned to the wall (which was what Tywin preferred) would have made her quite so angry.

It's your typical oligarchy - the law is for the plebs, the elites get to operate outside it, only they can't do so too openly because the facade that the law is universal is part of what allows the plebs to submit to it with some degree of self-respect intact, and if they lose that then everybody loses.
