What is an "emancipated" dog?

Maybe some people just enjoyed it. I personally thought it was a bloody amazing episode and all this Lindelof is trolling business is frankly tiring. We get it dude, it's not for you. I never got past the third episode of Lost, didn't care for it, so maybe I'm not as 'scarred' as some of you seem to be.
