Interesting that punk keeps being cited as an example of musical innovation, when a huge part of what punk began as was the kinds of rehashing that Reynolds is calling the White Stripes on. The Ramones basically just sped up doo-wop and added distortion (most clearly on End of the Century). John Lydon rejects

Other than those already mentioned, my favorite Bart-Lisa moment is when Bart buys Lisa her Sax on the Beach album with the money from his Krusty-O lawsuit. Really understated, but a 10 year old boy spending $500 to make his sister feel better instead of blowing it on The Ultimate Pog ("Behold!") is a pretty big deal.

1984's notion that language can be manipulated to influence and change thought on a mass scale has always seemed to me to be the main thrust of the book - all the Big Brother stuff that people always latch onto, while brilliant and terrifying, is all kind of dependent on that aspect of the novel.

Bridgeport definitely has kind of a Crime Alley thing going on, but in my mind Gotham's always been in Jersey.

"Who doesn't?"
"Homer, listen to me. John is a ho… mo…"
"Yeah, uh-huh."
"…sexual."
"What?!"

and: "'I will die for this!' he says. He is a veritable milkshake of all of the past generals' strategical centres. He takes out a flask and sips a bit of peach schnapps. And then he yells out to Harry, 'You can keep my stuff, if I don't survive this! You know it's sweet stuff, man! Just take it!' And he moves himself

'What are you kids doing here?'

It's mentioned that Ahab HAS (or at least had) a wife but I don't believe she ever makes an appearance, which suggests that there are going to be some pretty inventive flashbacks.

I agree with you El Crab, in that I think that CGI should be opted out of in favor of traditional SFX more often, but I disagree with your point about CGI looking "more realistic." In fact a puppet/robot looks far more real than CG image, because it is a real thing. The shark in Jaws looks so real because it is real;

For crap's sake, TLDTTofS isn't even mentioned in wiki's "Influences" section for American Gods.

Similarities between American Gods and Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul
The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul, by Douglas Adams (1988)
from wiki: "The central premise of the book is that gods are created by humans' necessity and desire for them, and, once worshipped by man, don't disappear but remain on earth forever.

More or less.

I grew up in Bristol, CT,
and I can assure you no one has ever mistaken it for "a hip, happening place" for anybody. Excepting maybe carousel nuts.

Ok, @davidboring - this isn't against your argument really but your false dichotomy between chicken and pasta (good food) v. KFC and Burger King (fast food). The problem isn't McDonald's. The problem isn't Burger King. I don't think most people, even most of the fattest people, actually eat that crap on more than a

Jeffrey Tambor is phenomenal in this show. The way he delivers certain lines is just brilliant.
