We're waiting for the 1000th comment that says the exact same thing. You guys are only #781 and #782.

Speaking of Skeletonwitch: I'll be debuting a track off their new album in next month's Loud.

White Arms Of Athena was on my list for this column, but it didn't make the cut (too much damn stuff came out in August). Thanks for the reminder — I'll go back and check it out. If it's anywhere near as good as BTBAM, I bet I'll like it.

Just to clarify once more: Each installment of Loud covers the previous month's releases. The new Opeth comes out on 9/20, so it'll be covered in the 10/5 column.

I totally agree. It's been a great year for punk. The new Bridge & Tunnel is currently floating my boat. Even if it does sounds like a cleaned-up version of RVIVR.

Zeroing in on Amebix: I've had the new album for a month now, and I've been thinking the exact same thing. It's as if they skipped all of Killing Joke's intermediate levels and went straight to the grizzled, atmospheric stage. I think it's an incredible record… Made more so by the fact that these guys have evolved in

See my comment above! Mastodon will be covered in our regular review section. Not sure yet if I'll be reviewing it… We've got a few fans on staff.

The new Mastodon (as if you couldn't guess) will be reviewed in our regular music section rather than here in Loud. As will the new WITTR, the new Anthrax, and a few others…

What?!? I slept on that. Hunting it down now… thanks!

Next month is gonna be sick. Opeth, Einherjer, Amebix, Absu, Mick Barr, Arabrot, Falloch, Morbus Chron…

Also, I should mention: Next month is already shaping up to be very metal-heavy.

Thanks, and thanks extra for the correction. My brain, she farted.

Luckily for you, powerviolence only comes in small doses. If you've never checked out Infest's No Man's Slave or the Crossed Out discography before, I can't recommend that stuff highly enough. (Signed, some dude wearing an Infest button.)

Not punk-heavy at all. This month's column is split pretty equally between metal, punk, hardcore, and noise (or noise-rock).

Actually, as mentioned above, it's similar to the works of Scott Lynch and Joe Abercrombie, two authors who couldn't be less like Mieville.

There was a little djent discussion here a couple months ago…

We've discussed various other frequencies and permutations of Loud, but it looks like this is the one we'll be sticking with in the foreseeable future. But I like your idea a lot… At the same time, I kinda love mashing all this shit up into one sticky, stinky mess.

The upcoming Chuck Ragan album is also really good. And this is coming from someone who's way burned out on punks-turned-folkies.

I haven't gotten my hands on the new Mastodon yet, but I can't wait to see where they go with the whole thing. But speaking of upcoming high-profile releases I DO have my hands on: I listened to the new Wolves In The Throne Room all morning, and it is so so so fucking good. Quantum leap ahead for those dudes.
