I hate it when shows try to rewrite history to make things more comfortable for modern audiences. I think racism can be engaged with in a constructive manner without being depressing and if they do introduce a character of color I would like to see that acknowledged the way they acknowledged the sexism in the 40s in

Well neither do fantasy novels for that matter although there are some that are truly brilliant. I once read a ranking of types of books which started with literary fiction at the top and ended with romance novels. Fantasy was second to last and SF was just above. Graphic novels actually got some respect in that list
