What I don't understand is why the auditions don't involve line-reading like any acting job. I feel like SNL has a lot of crazy character makers (Nassim, Vanessa, Fred) and a lot of impressionists (Jay Pharoah and his predecessors) but they need to hire for chemistry and sketch acting

It's not THAT funny. Tina Fey wasn't cleverly borrowing anecdotes with any degree of subtlety from her SNL days as much as she was hitting you over the head with a hammer with her snl anecdotes

they have 6 women all under contract. they'd have to fire one midseason which probably comes with legal hassles, so in all honesty, we should all just shut up about it until next fall when they can not renew Aidy and make space for a black woman. Until then, not much else they can do

As a reporter, I would hope that answering a question honestly isn't going to be a deathblow to your career. Otherwise what's the point of even doing an interview with him, if he's so severely hampered by his PR department.
