Wait… is Juanito really Armond White? I mean I kind of suspected, but still.

Well it would be if he understood what Watchmen was about and didn't have middleaged characters fighting like they were in a Matrix movie.

Will they do that given Avengers is using Thanos apparently.
I mean Thanos is a watered down Darkseid rip-off, but it has to be an issue regarding using him.
It'll be Brainiac anyway, though again given this film's villain plot was sort of a Braniac scheme anyway, what do you have him do?

Superman TAS, pretty terrible overall.

It's what he did to Zod and co in the comics.

@avclub-f8f8c273f326be25421cc62737d24a9e:disqus . Before Midnight didn't have enough CGI explosions and Hawke and Delpy philosophizing about life in super slo-mo for Juanito, and he got bored.

Yeah the way it inverted the usual 'influence' on his life from the Kents and the place he grew up in to 'Jor El is my dad (despite never really knowing him, and only knowing what's of course going to be an idealized version of him) , bugged me a lot.
Superman's core values have always been the Kents core values, and

Yeah I always remembered liking Superman II (obviously because the fights were epic and the like), but re-watching it and the original around Superman Returns I flipped opinion.
II looks sort of low budget in places, has some massive leaps of logic and cheats the holy hell out of the mess Superman got himself into when

Wait, I don't remember any weakness in Superman II except him taking away his own powers because he was horny.

Wasn't that the proposed plot to 'Superman V: Eff All of you, You're on your own'?

Watch Copper F-Eld make Kandor disappear!

I agree.
It's really as simple as having too much freedom to go nuts, and by abusing it it creates overload and over reliance.

It was the point, but the problem was they tried to have it both ways; be a teen drama with occasional superpowers and still try and graft on a grand heroic mythos, and that's where it started to get into trouble.

No, I'd say it's much more a story reflecting the hopes and aspirations of immigrants anywhere. That they can rise above and get a fresh start and potentially achieve greatness in a world that they adopt.
The American Dream stuff's a little off to me, as that's about freedom and equality, and Superman is anything but

That's bad writing. The lazy answer to 'meeting a stronger adversary' is just to hit harder still.
Good writing is for him to figure a way to win using what's between his ears.

Hope yes.

The problem with too much action if it's the same kind of action for half an hour is it gets boring unless you just like watching CGI eye candy.
We get it, there's a huge threat, stop zoom jump shooting and make us feel more emotionally invested beyond 'I hope Superman's good enough to punch all these bad guys in time'.

Can't you just give Juanito some kind of boils all over his hands J.C?

Yeah I loved how Shannon played him, but some sort of showing how formidable he was beyond 'he has lots of Kryptontians, and you have one' was a flaw to an otherwise interesting villain.

I think the consensus overall hear seems to be 'it was decent, but flawed'.
