“He’s older now, and still a clever swine” - that’s referencing one of my top five favourite The Smiths lines in one of my favourite songs of theirs.

“boilerplate donkey life lessons”

‘reporpoising’?

RIP.

“Climbers on the Faux-rient Express”

“The cast is fine; Dafoe and Pfeiffer seem to be having the most fun with their broadly drawn roles, and even Branagh’s melodramatic Poirot has his charms.”

I feel compelled to say that the opinions he spouts are as disgusting as it gets, and to the borders to assholery he frequently crosses that you mention comes the apprehension I feel when I look at the song titles of his new album (haven’t read the lyrics to ‘Israel’ and that other song yet and am anxious about it).

Converge’s The Dusk in Us, three full listens so far. It is utterly and unsurprisingly excellent, with three or four instant classics, including the opener, the pre-released ‘I can tell you about pain’ that really starts to glisten in the context of the album, and the title track, in which they make the quantum leap

That’s a great one, Dave Edwardson is as great a vocal contribution to Neurosis as Kelly and von Till, and he really adds something vital to Krallice’s sound. Might turn out to be my favourite by them.

...not to forget about APMD with a fresh and great album out, too.

New Converge is reliably utterly great, easily of the same, pretty immaculate quality of the last four albums (of which ‘You fail me’ is probably my favorite), but I’d wager that it won’t topple the insurmountable monument that is ‘Jane Doe’, it practically goes without saying.

Well, I just scrolled up to see it again and this telling typo has indeed been corrected, so ...

RE-listening old Converge and the three new songs on bandcamp in anticipation of The Dusk in Us. That will be a good one. It’s about time I saw them play a show again, too.

‘(it, uh, involves real estate)‘

The beautiful concept of feeling and expressing mirth about the misfortune of others has been elaborated and branded in Germany, but has been understood and adopted all around the world, finding beautiful embodiment and textbook-expression in Nelson’s undying two syllable-taunt of ‘Haha’, it is, however (and to be

Total mash-up shared universe possibility: Practical Magic Mike with, wait for it, Stockard Channing Tatum!

‘...and said, with heavy existential ennui straight to the camera he snuck into the house, “What’s happening to me?”’

If you’re into (really) tasty, slightly (or really) hot cheese creams, let me suggest having some Bavarian Obatzda or some Almogrote from the beautiful Canarian island La Gomera, both are excellent in their own way when well made.
