Recent events made him realize that he has all the necessary qualifications.

I clicked the linky and read it!

I love the Alex Raymond Flash Gordon, may need to check out the Dynamite version.

It was my absolute intention to throw myself under a moving locomotive. Ultimately, it had to be called when it became clear that those suckas are large.

Commenting on an article about people tweeting about a TV musical would be a little too "meta" for me, so I won't.

Thanks. I'll probably get around to reading them at some point, either way, but the different perspectives are interesting.

Yes, but it's not like rape is "normally" practiced by dudes who just couldn't figure out some other way to get laid. (Reference Louis CK bit about that.)

Goddammit!! That video is pretty funny.

The trailer makes me hate 20-somethings and 40-somethings.

I saw Kristin Hersh play an acoustic set at an almost empty record store (maybe Tower Records, when they had those?) …

Are you feeling anxious about all of the awesome mind-blowing torrid sex you're having, unlike the bourgeois moms at the Gymboree? If so, the NYT wants to hear from you!

Haven't read either of those, but I really liked the first half of Kavalier and Clay. Then it seemed to run out of steam and became increasingly programmatic. [Edit: I think the word I'm looking for is "schematic".]

Interesting, thanks. I really disliked the Potter books, at least the first 3 or 4 (I forget how far I got before I gave up on them).

So you didn't care for it?

Generally I agree with that, but artists do bring their lives into their work. If there is a huge disconnect between the values expressed in the work and the values they showed in their lives, it can make me re-evaluate the work, or at least feel less comfortable about it.

I have a similar problem with people who defend some of Joan Rivers' comments by saying "well, saying awful things was her schtick." I don't see how doing something a lot makes it OK.

So (genuine question - I haven't read the books, and they sounded kind of interesting), was your main beef with the protagonist?

So are the books good? They sounded interesting. A lot of the Amazon reviewers complained they are dull, but anything vaguely literary gets a lot of that type of review.

"Because I said so!"

Wait, we're talking about the one with Javier Bardem, right? I'm not saying it reached Roger Moore levels of camp, but still…
