Me too. I've only played 2 and 3 but noticed exactly the same thing. 3, in fact, actively punishes you for not doing side quests pretty much as soon as they arise. Unless of course you want Jack to get indoctrinated.

@AmaltheaElanor:disqus I totally agree. One of the things I loved about BSG (MORE SPOILERS) was that there weren't any outright goodies (except maybe Karl Agathon) or baddies (except three Cylons that I'm not going to look up the numbers of). Everyone's messy and flawed. And often drunk.

I think it works best when it's insulting to the commentariat, or telling, or both. There's a great one today over on the New Cult Canon article (I think) about thinking more about Futurama than Shakespeare.
