I completely agree. In the past, the fast pacing of the show always *led* somewhere.  Whereas in this season, the characters have darted back and forth endlessly on fruitless errands that don't change the status quo at all. In previous seasons, the writers weren't afraid to kill off a big villain mid-season. But for

I thought Bonnie's story was better than it's been in the past. But only because the standards for a good-Bonnie-storyline on this show are so freaking low.

How about the fact that they set up Sage as a parallel to Lexi? Stefan
got Lexi as his vamp-mentor, so he ended up a good guy. While Damon got
bloodthirsty Sage instead. I liked that the show created a big,
influential vamp in each of their backgrounds. It explains a lot about who
they were when the series started.
