hbo shows don't prioritize pacing
there's either too much going on (big love, true blood) or not enough (treme, hung, entourage).

if it really is best enjoyed tabula rasa then an opening line in your review to that effect would have been appreciated.

2 of the 4 movies had Bender's name in the title. having neither of the first two eps about him is a bit of a releif.

the only mistake joss made was in writing too awesome of a premise. FOX and Eliza were the anchors around his neck when he got onboard with the project. Joss comes up with a thought provoking central conceit with a meaty lead role that an actor would find challenging and fun. Unfortunately FOX hates sci-fi and
