Parenthood's obviously not a comedy, though. Although both have humor where you're more inclined to "laugh with", and have dramatic elements, one obviously isn't a live-action cartoon.

Happy Endings, I agree with. New Girl, I'm becoming less invested in. Also, hang-out sitcoms probably have more range for the jokes. It's kinda like a "laugh at" versus "laugh with"-deal.

I agree with this whole-heartedly. Even if some of the humour is ridiculously cartoonish, it spells the serious stuff. The show is a comedy, after all.

I'm surprised he'd really be that high on New Girl. It's a really good sitcom, but I don't think it's that great. (In the same genre, Happy Endings is critically better)

An extended version of Todd's awesome comment from that show's review — yes! Looking at the show's future potential, though, I wouldn't want to see the show be solely a relationship-driven show (or better said, a show driven on relationships). This show is one of the funniest shows of TV, especially when you restrict the set of network TV. Outside of the good NBC Thursday sitcoms, Suburgatory is up there.

I've developed Stockholm Syndrome with this show, but I actually thought this episode was genuinely decent to good.

No reference to 12 Angry Men in the recap? And missing The Wire reference?

I'm okay content with Alicia's current relationship situation. It's an interesting aspect they're capturing in this relationship dynamic between Peter and Alicia, which seems realistic (I'm thinking like the Clintons, although I may be off).

I have a similar mindset to you, but I can't kick the show (so I still watch it on-demand online). This episode was much closer to classic HIMYM than most episodes in the past year.
