Seth Rogen's character in Observe and Report.

Not sure this album is the best gateway for Monk or even for Art Blakey, but Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers with Thelonius Monk is an album that has definitely stuck with me for a while. What's weird about this one is that Monk, Blakey, and the bassist (Spanky DeBrest) are so locked in you almost take them for granted.

Peter Matthiessen's Shadow Country would be awesome to see as a series. Edgar Watson is an amazing character. Fuck, all the characters are great. I know it's all subjective, but the Psychic Paramount absolutely rule. One of the best shows I have seen. The sheer amount of noise, force, drive, synergy, or whatever the fuck you want to call it (maybe it's all of those) coupled with how intricate their songs are make them stand out as an extremely talented unit.

The album that Del put out last season is basically Donald Harrison Jr.'s "Indian Blues." I believe that Del is based off of a combination of Donald Harrison and his nephew Christian Scott. The album is great.
