licensing issues aren't a concern with classical music, so it's easier to simply commission a recording of some classical music and make it into a CD than it would be to negotiate the rights to re-release a popular rock album on CD, at least until CDs took off and record companies were convinced of the business model

And even 720p is being generous if it's been compressed too much. The uncompressed image may technically feature 720 lines of resolution, but when there's a ton of compression artifacts on the screen, the actual resolution of what you can perceive in the image is quite a bit lower.

damn, we've come a long way when CD's are praised for having a warmer sound quality (not that I disagree). Back the day, anybody who knew anything about sound quality KNEW that CD's sound harsh, artificial, and lacked vinyl's warmth!

Personally, I rarely listen to CD's, but still prefer to purchase them any time I'm buying an entire album. I'll rip them and then file them away in one of those big case logic books, but I still feel that it's worth having a physical copy, for a couple of reasons. First of all, it's nice to have a backup copy, and

he does make an interesting point about the potential of stereoscopic filmaking though. There's an important distinction to be made between filming something stereoscopically and post-converting something to 3-D. The former actually adds data to the finished product (since the two cameras are capturing the performance

OK, I'll play devil's advocate here. I think 3-D was worth the cost in Avatar, and I genuinely enjoyed watching it in 3-D. Now, keep in mind that I'm not arguing that it was a good movie here. The best way to describe how I feel about Avatar is that it's bland and forgettable. Some movies are so good that I leave the

Jackass 3D was probably the best possible use of 3D I can think of, but IMO the super slo-mo camera was used to greater effect. The one shot of Steve-o getting whacked upside the face with a slimy fish is worth the price of admission alone.

I'm with Craig. The influence Tony holds over local politics outweighs the power of a vote a thousand to one. Why bother casting a single vote for a guy when you could just as easily throw a ballot box full of the other guy's votes in the river?

Damn. That's what I get for watching season one during the break between season 5 and season 6…

yeah, DVD's were a pretty hot ticket at that time. later in '99, maybe not so much. But I sold DVD's during the christmas season in '98, and $300 was the absolute cheapest you could find them. Mostly they'd have been $400 to $600.
