I think this is the best so far, maybe the best of season one.
We've seen a few episodes so far that are good for sentimental reasons (the Christmas Special), a few that are good because they're the first to introduce certain elements (the satire in "Bart the Genius, Abe in "Bart the General"), but this one brings it

Hey, not everything in life is worthy of Trek-level respect!

Red Foreman as the Federation president in Star Trek 6 is always a bit distracting - I keep thinking he'd really rather just put his boot up the Klingon's ass. somehow I dn't think of him as Clarence Boddicker like Zieg does, even though that's a pretty memorable roll.

@ George - you're absolutely right! I give my brother-in-law (who works for comcast and is the source of most of my knowledge in this area) shit about that all the time. Unfortunately my HDTV doesn't have an ATSC tuner (I bought it way back in 2002), or I'd throw an antenna up in the attic just for the better

I'd throw in "The Hamptons", but you can take "The Contest". Personally, I think that one's over-rated due to the subject matter.

Shit, I don't know what I'd do on Thursdays without Trek write ups! I suppose I'd be stuck replying to these customer emails that are piling up in my inbox.

Compression and or upconversion could make a fairly big difference in quality between an HD and an SD channel, even if the source is the same SD resolution. It's possible the HD channel is upconverting the SD picture to HD, which will add some "resolution" (or, at least the impression of resolution - you can't really

yeah, that's the one I always think of. I really get a kick out of Elaine's inner monologue. Sometimes it seems she's only a rifle and a clocktower away from flat-out opening fire Charles Whitman-style.

Dripping - that's an excellent point that I forgot about. It never makes sense to me how these things are handled. I would think that when you're done transfering those negatives to video, you'd take the time to put them back together in one place so you'd have the original product safeguarded.

Go ahead and give "The Parking Garage" an A+
It's got everything that makes Seinfeld great - Kramer's wacky world view, George's nueroses, Jerry's odd-ball attempts to persuade people with comedy. and most imporantly, an episode-long slow burn from Elaine, which never fails to entertain me.

Making a high-quality Blu-ray set for TNG wouldn't be any harder than it was for TNG, becuase in either case they're starting from scratch on the FX shots. Transfering the live-action filmed elements would be roughly the same process (possibly a bit easier if the original stock is in better shape).
But in the current

I never got that impression. IMO, the father figure dynamic between Picard and Wesley stems from Picard having sent Wesley's dad to his death. and the Beverly - Jean Luc tension comes from the conflict between their mutual attraction and professionalism. Both themes - the burden and loneliness of command - fit

I don't quite agree that "employee of the month" completely closes this aspect of Melfi's arc, but I do think that it was a bit over the top in that it brought her conflict to a do-or-die confrontation that was a bit unnecessary. The whole set up is a bit ham-handed **spoilers** the police call a victim to tell her

tristiac nails it - Melfi's lying through her teeth with all that "responsibilty" talk. She's living vicariously through Tony's actions just as much as the audience it.

OK, I try not to be "That Guy", but reboot Spock didn't meet Spock prime on Hoth (err.. delta Vega, even though we saw delta vega in "Where No Man Has Gone Before and it was nowhere near Vulcan), he met reboot Kirk.

I get the impression from Thomas Jane's performance that Ray's starting to realize that there's a lot of things in life that he just doesn't understand, but that he's really trying to make heads or tails of it, despite his obvious lack of perspective.

Yeah, they were pretty dismissive towards Ray. I'd have thought his mere presence there might engender some goodwill, or atleast a little curiousity. Surely they don't get all-american baseball coach fathers at the poetry club on a regular basis.

that was some pretty damn good physical comedy there. Probably the best Jane Adam's done on this show so far, IMO.

I'm kinda in the middle. I've really liked, and I think it'll be enjoyable enough even if it stays stuck in this rut, but I'd like to see it move forward a bit.
