seinfeld's acting and standup might be mediocre…
But he does a good job of integrating bits of standup material into the dialogue - the "fruit's a gamble" line being a good example. It's almost as if he's got a bit of a cynical existential streak to his personality, and he's just resigned to the fact that life's gonna

re: the bloody payoff
This reminds me of an interview David Chase did with a local radio host a few years back. I believe it was before season 4 or 5, and the radio host was complaining that the show had become "too soap-opera-y" and not enough of a mob story, contrasting it with (spoiler) Ralphie's death in a

I think it's a good addition. he's been a semi-regular character already, and when he's been in an episode he's been funny. his character veers a little closely to Toby. He's an ineffectual and put-upon straight man who obstensibly reports directly to HQ and not michael, but has very nearly zero authority in practice.

I don't think anyone's blaming anythin on WOW here. If there is a link between WOW and anti-social behavior, the causality is probably the opposite: it's likely that people who exhibit anti-social behavior are attracted to WOW (and other endeavours that invite obsessive commitment) to a greater extent than the

I'm ok with that. Emperor Jim is right.

Yes, the movie is that bad, and yes, the teachers had given up. Was it right before the end of a semester?

I'm just blown away by the attention to detail here. For example, when the camera pulls back from the bottle, it's timed with Farrar's approach from the door, so that it seems as if we're not backing away from the bottle, but rather pulling him in to it. A tiny, tiny detail no doubt, but it really caught my attention.

That t-shirt was one of the very few thinks my mom completely refused to let me have. you'd have thought I was asking for a pipeful of crack or something. Eventually she compromised and let me have a "Don't Have a Cow" shirt. But I still wanted the "Underacheiver" one, and held a minor grudge about it until it was

At first The Wall would seem to fit, but the more I think about it I don't know if Pink from The Wall is really insane though - at least not in the album. He's more isolated and closest off from those around him more than outright insane. The movie leans a little more towards portraying him as actually insane, but

The ending to Dawn of the Dead is much, much darker than the suicide would've been, or even then if they hadn't escaped and we see them die. Having them obstensibly survive to the credits, and then reveal that they really haven't survived anything but for a breif extension of their struggle subverts all of preceding

I wonder what Mr Rasczak meant by that. I like the quote, and it's something I agree with whole heartedly. but Mr Rasczak seems like a True Believer in the Federation, so it seems out of place. maybe he wants to challenge the kids to come to the conclusion that the Federation is correct on their own, so that their

And especially if you're wearing a Starfleet uniform in TMP!

It's fun to watch these first seasons, to see just how greatly and quickly it evolved. I picked up the seasons 1-2 DVD set a couple years ago and watched all the documentarys and most of the commentarys, and it's truly a show being created by people who have little to know idea what they're doing.

I like that idea. I'm not sure Verhoeven planned it that way, but it's an interesting perspective.
Although the movie does open with one of the propaganda reels, so you could argue that you're seeing what federation civillian would see upon turning on the TV just before the movie was scheduled to start.

"Shot 10 times" - you must not be watching the director's cut! In that one, he's pumped full of bullets for about 30-45 seconds, including a gory shot of a shotgun literally blowing his hand off! definitely worth watching if you like gore.

Not a film, but The Pacific is pretty relentlessly bleak in it's portrayal of war. I just caught up with the last 3 hours of that the day before watching ST, and the contrast really makes the satire in the beginning stand out - all the emphasis of serving your country, glory of battle, etc. ring especially hollow

Apologies if I double posted, but I put a post up here earlier that evidently didn't stick so here goes.

I don't know, I might be OK with that. Are they making out or anything? That would definitely help

well, I guess it's hard to quantify, but there's no full frontal nudity for either sex, and there's plenty of guy's asses, so I my mind it's roughly equivalent. And the breasts that you do see aren't presented in a sexualized context - they just happen to be there as the characters discuss other things. It's no big

I blame bad marketing.
