We had the yellow marble sized heads when I was young. I read those are rather rare nowadays.

While it is true that the big sets are from LEGO themes, fewer of the parts are single purpose. I'm 42, so I started out with the "sets of only blocks" and remember the sets wherein the minifigs were faceless and had fixed legs and no arms.
