As Kevin said, watching him drop the schtick for a few minutes and get emotional was incredibly touching. Even more amazing was how he was able to flip the switch and jump right back into character, and do the show as normal. A really stirring "the show must go on" moment.

There have been occasional crossover segments where Stewart and Colbert do some kind of skit together, and it's always immediately and glaringly noticeable how thoroughly outclassed Stewart is when it comes to acting / sketch work.
