I like everything you said here. (Tom Cruise is a GREAT actor for starters!) Unbreakable through Lady in the Water are all good movies. There's really not even a need to qualify that. I'd certainly rather watch any of those than any Nolan film.

At the very least, Wanderlust is funny. I am continuously shocked at how bad Dinner for Schmucks is every time it's on HBO. It shares a lot of the same problems but isn't funny at all. Insulting, boring, and exceedingly lazy.
