No, it was one of those times when replacing one of the established actors really pays off dividends (also Barbera Windsor, who probably would have got the Fenella Fielding role).

Still love the episode of Steptoe and Son which starred Peter Sellers as an prisoner on the run who decides by the end of the episode he's much better off back in jail.
Meanwhile Harry H. Corbett was one of the best things in Carry On Screaming (the other was, obviously, Fenella Fielding)
There was a good docudrama about it a couple of years back with Phil Davis and Jason Isaacs playing Wilfred Bramble and Harry H. Corbett
