National event?  I never heard about it.  Only know them from a live Hip album, which I assume Lt. is quoting from above.  "Big hand for the Rheostatics, we're all richer for having seen them tonight" or something.

Does TLC still stand for The Learning Channel?  Boy, that's ironic.  I remember when they used to show operations and shit.  You could've practically become a surgeon watching that channel.
I also remember when Jesse James was just the cool, enigmatic grease monkey from Monster Garage.  And now he's history's greatest

Yes, Day for Night gets my vote as being their masterpiece.  Maybe it has something to do with the title, but there's a cinematic quality to that album.  And Nautical Disaster gets me every time.  Phantom Power is good too…and then after that I kind of stopped listening except for a few songs here and there.

I admit to buying Dunkelheit off iTunes when I couldn't get it out of my head.  I wish Varg had just left it at murder and not gone full on racist.  The murder thing adds to the sense that you're listening to some dark, dark shit; the racist thing is just stupid and annoying.

Haven't you seen 'Snatch', Heller?  Seriously though, English fisticuffs is nothing to sneeze at, those drunkards will beat each other to death with their bare hands, whereas Americans resort to weapons.  Even more seriously, how in the hell do you know so much about that band, Dick?!  AV Club members never fail to

That last sentence of yours is very well said.  Regarding Black Flag, I'm always amazed that for a bunch of young punks, they came up with a great logo…from a graphic design standpoint.

Oh I should mention I've never been anywhere near there, so I'm sure I sound like an idiot.

There were skinheads in N.O?  Seems like it would be a tough place to say 'white power'.

What did you think of This is England '86?  I found it not terrible, but quite a disappointment compared to the film.  It was just so damn sitcom-like.  What was the deal with Combo's machete wielding sidekick from the movie suddenly being a soft, teddy bear buddy of the gang all of a sudden?   That series had a

Andy's a great guest on everything, and Howard Kremer is becoming a national fucking treasure.  Seriously, Howard gets along great with everyone and can make every guest giggle like a little kid.  Big fan, as my dear departed Dave Feeney would say.  Well, departed to another job, not to the afterlife.  Yes, I still

Tried listening to Aisha's podcast but I just find her to be a terrible interviewer.  She comes off as trying way too hard to be 'dude' friendly and her laughter always seems kind of fake.  She gets pretty great guests though so I assume she must be funny in some context, unless there's something else about her that

I didn't really get that there was any tension there.  Maron had just
had a friendly, respectful conversation with the guy for over an hour
and then briefly, almost sheepishly, brought it up at the end.  I think
Jason was more venting over the tabloid crap about it than at Mark's
mentioning of it.  I mean, Jason

His verse on Drama is really good, but ya that whole track is good beginning to end so maybe the best you can say is that he doesn't derail it.

The life of the party guy had been suicidal, he'd bought a nice, new, heavy coat so he could drown himself in the ocean and not be thought a bum by whoever dredged him up, but I don't think he was still talking about killing himself.  Was billcarter@@trainertothestarsseekingstars:disqus.org suicidal, or just a

Ya if you'd ever read a one paragraph synopsis about Joy Division there were no real surprises in that movie.  For a fantastic band their history is really brief and simple.  But the black and white looked great and like Keith says it really felt like late '70s Manchester.
24 Hour Party People will give you enough of

I had to read it for a third year literature class in university.  So I guess either your high school was really advanced, or my university was really shit.
Good book though.

Santo Domingo isn't bigger, Wikipedia says so. And ya, Toronto isn't humble by Canadian standards, but compared to LA, NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Miami etc…
It's also the most boring massive city I've ever been to.

Love Eyes Wide Shut. Saw it in the theater and thought it was okay but boring, caught it on TV last year and liked it a lot more. Love the cinematography during the xmas party. Love the spacey, detached dialogue…love the mass model nudity…
And that piano score is nice and eerie.

Ehh…no, not hot. Funny though. Don't know why Comedy Central canned her last show, it really seemed to be building some good buzz.

Well I think Lt. was making the point that the Americans being interviewed might have thought Ali G was strange just because he was foreign whereas the British interviewees may have thought he was a representative of urban British youth.
